Triple your gift!

In honor of our commission of playwright Lauren Yee, the San Francisco Foundation has challenged AlterTheater to raise $7,500. If we do, they'll match it, dollar for dollar. Plus, a small handful of generous donors have teamed up to match the San Francisco Foundation's match! Now's a great time to support AlterTheater: for every dollar you donate before October 19th, AlterTheater receives $3.33!

Skeptical of Matching Challenges? The San Francisco Foundation will only give us the money if you make a donation. If you don't give, we don't get a penny from them. If you choose to give nothing, AlterTheater will still get $0.66 from an individual donor. However, if you give $1, AlterTheater receives $3.33. Please help! We can't create this work without you: AlterTheater's new works program is currently supporting a new commission by Lauren Yee, written specifically for AlterTheater, and also developing a new piece by alternative theater icon Robert Ernst. Ernst's last project with AlterTheater, the non-linear, musically inspired Catherine's Care was nominated for Best New Play of 2007 by the Bay Area Critics' Circle.

Help us create tomorrow's canon of American theater: It costs AlterTheater approximately $50,000 to develop and produce a new play. Can you help infuse our new works program with the cash we need to fully bring these works to life?

The cost of new works:

* $1,543: protect our artists and our patrons with accident and liability insurance. We don't ever skimp on safety, yours or ours.

* $563: printing costs for our postcards

* $261.29: one actor's' weekly salary, plus pension benefits and payroll taxes

* $100: all the photocopying costs from Draft One through the Final Rehearsal Draft of a new play

* $25: pays for one actor to do a workshop reading for the playwright. Such a small cost, but absolutely invaluable to our playwrights!
