Why support AlterTheater?

AlterTheater engages with underserved segments of our community
**more than half of our audience members qualify as low-income
**AlterTheater is committed to an inclusive, diverse, and accepting community, and our artistic ensemble is deeply diverse—generationally (ages 23 to 88), ethnically

--AlterTheater’s programming directly addresses well-documented needs within our community
**AlterTheater’s playwright residency program was crafted based on Outrageous Fortune: The Life and Times of the New American Play, a book researched & written by Todd London, community-wide convenings discussing the issues raised in London’s research & book, and individual conversations with Bay Area playwrights
**AlterTheater’s plays tackle issues facing our community—from alcoholism to homophobia, from domestic violence to gender equality—and we work to engage our audience around the issues, providing bridges between our audiences/artists and those in our community that work with these issues.

--AlterTheater commissions, develops, and produces new American plays
** AlterTheater has produced 12 world premieres in only 7 years, and nearly 2/3 of our produced playwrights are local Bay Area playwrights.
