San Rafael has a bustling Fourth Street, with a number of restaurants in the downtown area: we encourage you to explore the neighborhood! Mention you're seeing the show at AlterTheater: some places offer discounts to our patrons. And doublcheck the hours: not everyone is open on Sunday.

Brazil Marin Cafe & Market. Open til 8 pm, closed Sunday.

Citus and Spice Thai and Asian fusion, 1444 Fourth Street.

Om South Indian Cuisine, 1518 Fourth Street. 415-458-1779. CLOSED SUNDAY. Super friendly folks, serving South India specialties. Amazing paneer. If you're unfamiliar with South Indian food, this is a great place to try it--the staff are patient, and informative.

The Mayflower, 1533 Fourth Street. Pub food until 9 p.m., bar open until midnight.

Whipper Snapper, 1613 Fourth Street. Open for lunch and dinner. Owner/chef Bill Higgins serves delicious tapas, homemade Sangria and reasonably priced organic specials in a warm, vibrant space that features the whimsical art of Patrick Maloney. Dine inside or out back on the patio - it's a tropical oasis!

Hanna's Restaurant, 1700 Fourth Street (at G Street), San Rafael. Italian Mediterranean. 415-457-6252. Fantastic Mediterranean & Italian cuisine.
