About the event
In a political climate where artists are being reprimanded and censored, ITMéxico is an act of defiance, resilience, and survival. If we are told to “go back,” then we take our art with us, create in freedom, and return with stories that refuse to be silenced.
In partnership with Alternative Theater Ensemble, Marin Shakespeare Company and Dominican University of California, In the Margin presents a free, one-night-only staged reading series of works by playwrights resisting this silencing through humor, nuance and joy. A culmination of their work during ITM's artist residency in Sahuayo, Michoacán, this series highlights their stories in the beautiful Forest Meadows Amphitheatre of San Rafael, California.
We invite the Bay Area community to stand with us in this effort—to witness the art that emerges from liberation and to uplift the next generation of QTBIPOC artists as they carry these narratives forward.
