Laura Shamas

is a playwright whose plays have been produced in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Europe, and Australia. Some of the places her work where has been developed or produced include: The Public Theater (New York), Native Voices at the Autry (Los Angeles), Native Earth Performing Arts (Toronto), New Native Theatre (St. Paul), The Naked Expedition Project (New York), Oklahoma City Theatre Company, Free-Rain Theatre (Australia), Purely Pensive Productions (Australia), the Young Company Theatre (Australia), The Lark Theatre (New York), Williamstown Theatre Festival, Golden Thread Productions (San Francisco), Walnut Street Theater (Philadelphia), Utah Shakespearean Theater Festival, The Glines (New York), Philadelphia Theater Company, Soho Theatre (London), The Old Globe (San Diego), The Geva Theater, and the Denver Center Theater Company. Shamas was the 2017 winner of the Von Marie Atchley Award for Excellence in Playwriting from Native Voices at the Autry. Her published plays include: Portrait of a Nude; Picnic At Hanging Rock (adaptation); Amelia Lives; The Other Shakespeare; Lincoln Vacation; Lady-Like; Re-Sourcing; and Molière in Love. Shamas is an enrolled member of the Chickasaw Nation and was born in Oklahoma.
